The home ground advantage paid off as New Zealand riders dominated the 2018 Oceania MTB Championships held in Dunedin over the weekend.
Samara Sheppard (NZL) and Anton Cooper (NZL) took out the elite categories with Holly Harris (NSW) finished second in the women while Cameron Ivory (NSW) took bronze in the men.
World junior men’s cross-country champion Cameron Wright (QLD) was the only Australian to claim an Oceania title with fellow Australians Matt Dinham (NSW) and Sam Fox (TAS) rounding out the podium.
In the junior women, after leading early in the race a flat tyre cruelled Tegan Atherstone’s (VIC) hopes of victory, as she finished with the silver.
In the U23’s Charlotte Culver (NSW) finished with bronze in the women while Alex Lack (TAS) was the best of the Australians in fourth.
In Sunday’s downhill finals, Patrick Butler (NSW) was the best of the Australian’s with a fourth in the junior men.
