Cross-Country National Champs To Be Live Streamed

Posted by mtba, February 15, 2018

Mountain Bike Australia (MTBA) has announced a partnership with University of New England (UNE) to live stream the 2018 National Cross-Country Championships held in Armidale, NSW from the 23-25th February.

MTBA’s coverage of the championships will be streamed on the Flow Mountain Bike and SBS Cycling Central Facebook page across the three days of racing, with a potential reach of over 300,000 people.

Included in the coverage will be Friday’s XC Eliminator, Saturday’s age group categories and the junior and elite XC finals on Sunday.

MTBA CEO Shane Coppin said the opportunity to bring the best cross-country racing to a large audience is exciting for the riders and the sport.

“This gives the mountain bike community the freedom to watch the best in the country race for national honours wherever they are in Australia.”

“This commitment is not just for elite but showcases our high regard for all riders,” Coppin said.

The feast of mountain biking will include Friday’s XC Eliminator, Saturday’s age group categories and culminates in the junior and elite XC finals on Sunday.

“It’s pretty exciting that MTBA and UNE have collaborated to organise live streaming of the 2018 National Championship events which will give a significant number of people who are unable to travel a great feeling of quality racing and what the region has to offer,” Peter Hosking President New England MTB Club.

“UNE has outstanding facilities and generous space that makes the campus a natural venue for hosting elite sports events,” said Professor Annabelle Duncan Vice Chancellor and CEO University of New England.

“We also have outstanding capabilities in sports and exercise science, so it is pleasing that in events like the 2018 National Mountain Bike Championships, we see the practice of a competitive sport occurring in the same place as our research into sporting performance.”

The 2018 National Downhill Championships to be held in Bright, Victoria 2-4th March will also be live-streamed.
