Tony Hancock – Chair

Tony has more than 20 years experience as a business strategy and marketing consultant having worked for Queensland Rugby and numerous other major organisations and companies.

Tony’s formal qualifications include a Bachelor of Commerce (majors in Marketing and Human Resource Management) and a Diploma of Teaching.

Tony became a member of the Brisbane South Mountain Bike Club (now the RATS Cycling Club) in 2010 and joined the volunteer committee. In 2012 he became vice president before being elected as president from 2013-2015. In 2015 he was elected as vice president  MTBA.

 Tony’s vision for mountain biking in Australia encompasses a collective approach and partnership between all stakeholders.

 

 

Russ Baker – Director

Russ lives in Canberra and began mountain biking in 1991. He has previously served as Chair of the Australian Defence Force Sports Council (2004-2007), MTBA Management Committee ACT State Rep (2007-2009), and President of MTBA (2009- 2017). His involvement in MTB organisation began in 2001 with the Mont (now Scott) 24 hour, which he delivered for Canberra Off-Road Cyclists from 2003 for over 10 years.

In the mid 2000s, he was involved in the concept planning for Stromlo Forest Park and bringing the UCI 2008 MTB World Cup and 2009 World Championships to Canberra. He also brought two Solo 24 hour World Championships to Australia and founded WEMBO, the world organisation for Solo 24 Hour Racing, in 2011. A passionate campaigner for keeping cycling drug-free and including Women in mountain biking, Russ is a member of the Order of Australia (AM) and an Associate Member of the ACT Sport Hall of Fame.

 

 

Lee Brentzell – Director

  

Competitive sport and outdoor adventures are integral to Lee and her family’s lives and they have been fortunate to ride their mountain bikes and run in some spectacular locations around the world where they lived and worked for many years.

She has been impressed with the quality and accessibility of trails, races, clubs and development courses in Australia since returning in 2010 and is excited to share her passion for the outdoors with her young daughters who love mountain biking but have not taken up trail running just yet.

When not conquering big mountains, Lee is a business strategist and transformational change leader in the Mining, Oil and Gas industry with twenty years experience in senior executive and project management roles working across all aspects of business from the development and execution of corporate strategies,new business setup, acquisitions and divestments, systems implementations and operational improvements. She loves a challenge but at the same time is a natural, people orientated leader with the ability to deliver large-scale business changes to maximise employee engagement and people performance that result in successful business transformations and desired benefits.

Lee has qualifications in civil engineering, a masters in business administration, new venture leadership, and is an Advance Queensland Digital Community Champion. She Chairs a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineer, Arts and Mathletics) Sub Committee at her local primary school and is strong advocate to boost female numbers in technical fields of work and sport through positive role modeling and collaboration with industry leaders, local communities and primary schools.

 

 

Courtenay Lee Shoy – Director

Courtenay is a supporter of all things cycling – be it racing, fitness or just riding for the sheer joy of it. While he does ride the road bike, his first love has always been for sweeping single-track, which he was first introduced to over 10 years ago.

He is an especially enthusiastic cyclocross (CX) fan and having attended the 2016 CX World Champs in Belgium (the epicentre of cyclocross), he is keen to see the discipline grow more in Australia.

Professionally, Courtenay has been an IT Consultant for 20 years with experience primarily in the financial services, utilities and telecommunications industries. He has a particular interest in credit card security projects. 

 

 

Clinton McAlister – Director

Clinton brings to MTBA over 20 years’ experience in leading and managing diverse teams across operational and corporate functions within the utility sector, commencing my career as an electrical tradesman and transitioning to operational management, safety, business transformational, asset management, planning and strategy roles across the utility and Government sector.  Clinton has proven history of success in improving safety, quality, client-focused and performance cultures in the delivery of significant operational, maintenance and capital works programs.

Clinton has formal qualifications in  Masters of Business Administration, Degree in  OHS management, Management Communication and General Management.

Clinton is a proactive, confident and decisive leader with a passion for delivering results, especially when faced with complex challenges and/or tight deadlines. He has a passion for the importance of effective communication and strong customer, stakeholder and personnel relationships.

 

 

Peter McKendry – Director

PM Bio

Peter has over 30 years experience in large multinational corporations in Senior Financial Management positions having worked for Keller Australia, Carefusion, Ecolab, and The Blue Star Print Group.

Peter is a CPA and holds a Bachelor of Business from UTS. Skills developed in rapidly growing commercial and Not for Profit enterprises include Strategy Development, Business Planning and Financial Analysis.

Peter has a long history of supporting the development of sporting club’s and participating in charity events. Importantly, Peter has a passion for enduro mountain bike riding at a social level and encourages the development of social riding around Sydney and NSW.

 

 

Lisa Morisset – Director

Ms Morriset is the Principal of Canberra based consultancy Brunswick Solutions. Her expertise in governance, stakeholder engagement, and business transformation will help consolidate recent changes to MTBA’s structure and guide strategic direction. She is particularly interested in women’s participation in mountain biking, and the benefits the sport can make socially and economically.

Lachlan Murray – Director

Lachlan started mountain biking around the bush tracks of Bendigo 15 years ago and has been hooked ever since. While the bikes may have been updated, the passion for the sport is as high as it’s ever been.

While the roadie and CX have places in the shed, marathon MTB style racing is where Lachlan’s heart is with him being a regular on the XCM scene.  Lachlan also completed his first 24hour solo race in 2016 and has plans to compete in more in 2017.

 Away from the trails, Lachlan is a chartered accountant with a commercially focused background and is currently the CFO of Ladbrokes Australia.  He is keen work to accelerate the profile of mountain biking by continuing to promote & develop the sport, from grassroots through to the elite.

 

 

April Rich – Director

April is a Senior Associate at MinterEllison Lawyers with extensive experience in the sports and entertainment industry and is currently the Manager of Brand Protection for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Especially enthusiastic about gender equality, in April’s spare time she volunteers for Layne Beachley’s Aim for the Stars Foundation and guest lectures at Bond University. April is also heavily involved in mentoring junior women in all professions to pass on the experience she has gained while living, working and studying in seven cities across the globe.

April is hugely passionate about sport and the arts and enjoys spending time with her family and friends.
