Team Relay

The team relay will be held on the cross-country course on Friday morning and will consist of four riders of the following make-up:

• One rider aged under 19 at the eligibility date;

• One rider eligible to compete in a Masters 3 or higher category that is, aged 40 or over at the eligibility date;

The team relay will have each rider complete a single lap, for a total race distance of four laps per team.

MTBA will facilitate the formation of teams at the event for riders who wish to ride, but have been unable to find a complete team.

XC Eliminator

The XCE rounds will be conducted along the pathways of the University of New England campus on Friday evening. The knock out heats may consist of 4-6 riders and only the first 2 riders will progress to the next round

All riders will be seeded via a time trial. Except for Elite Men and Elite Women, all categories will be combined after seeding to facilitate the maximum number of elimination heats.

The final will determine first to fourth while a small final will be included to determine fifth to eighth.

XCO

Starting in the centre of the Sport UNE sporting facilities you climb up the flowing ‘Revelation’ trail
past the Economics / Law faculty to the highest point on course. At over 1000m altitude you will be
sucking in the air as you pass the Church and return down a fast and flowy trail to reach the first
technical switchback climbs.

Each switchback offers an A/B option but can you clean all the A line rocks of the climb without going too deep, too early. Crossing the cattle grid into a short descent you then climb straight up the fall line over the roots of Lone Pine, into Hamburger Hill.

These are technical pinch climbs that will have you red-lining. At the top you drop straight into Ducats Way, a descending switchback rock garden that bruised many an ego in 2017. Out of Ducats Way you reach Cognition, a flow climb into a fun flow track with berms and jumps, a time to suck in a few breaths before hitting ½ lap distance at the 1st Feed / Tech zone.

Out of feed tech into the Pine Forest and mellow climb of Axe Head to pop you out the far side of the
Pine Forest into the back of the Mars Attack trail. This trail has been put in the blender so you ride
the back end descent to run along the creek. Climb back up the switch backs into the crowds at the
infamous Mars Attack section.
As you are deafened by the crowd you climb the A line rocks before dropping straight into the infamous rock drop, once through the drop it’s a short climb into the mellow downhill berms of Waimea Bay.

Across the flats of the pine forest and across the 2nd cattle grid you reach ‘Poplars’. Unlike any other
section of trail around it will have you questioning ‘are my bars too wide’ before a short double
track, over the 3rd grid and return to Feed / Tech. From the feed tech climb it’s a short downhill into the start / finish line.

Overall 5.4km and about 130m vertical per lap.
