As the London Olympics reached it's final day, 2012 National Champion Dan Mc Connell was making his second appearance in the mens' cross country.
With an aim to better his position of 39th at the Beijing Olympics towards the top twenty in the World, Dan approached the race line tactically astute.
The twenty-six year started towards the back of the fifty strong pack in 32nd, but then picked up the pace passing eight riders to 26th were he remained for the majority of the technically challenging course.
Dan then accelerated though lap five into 22nd position.
Race gold was fought intensely by three riders with the title being awarded to Kulhavy of the Czech Republic (1:29:07) ahead of Schurter of Switzerland (1:29:08) and Fontana of Italy (1:29:32)
Mc Connell crossed the line in 21st (1:33:22)
Mountain Bike Australia would like to congratulate Dan on his second successful Olympic Games.
