Get behind and support our Olympic riders this weekend

With just 2 days before MTB competition commences at the 2012 London Olympics, Daniel McConnell and Rebecca Henderson are focusing firmly on the ride of their lives.

Rebecca and Dan have waited patiently to compete in one of the last events on the London Schedule.

Mountain Bike Australia encourages our biking community, young and old, recreational and competitive to stay up late over the weekend and cheer on our exemplary athletes.

Both have been lead into the games by MTBA Sporting Director Chris Clarke, 'It is very pleasing to know we have two in-form and commendable athletes leading Mountain Bike Australia into London'.

MTBA President Russ Baker congratulated both riders on their selection.

"We have watched Bec Henderson grow as a mountain biker over the last 8 years and it was clear very early on that she had the potential to be an exceptional athlete, but it is her performances this year in the Under 23 World Cups that have made everyone take notice. Ranked 2nd with a bag of podium results and with great potential for the future, you have to go back nearly a decade to find anything similar for an Australian rider. Dan McConnell has put a lot of effort into his mountain biking in recent years and he has moved steadily up the world rankings, achieving a top-20 result in the world cup last weekend in Mont Sainte-Anne (Canada). Both as a couple, and as individuals, Bec and Dan serve as inspiring role models for Australian riders with the skills and sportsmanship they continue to display. I am confident they will do us proud in London and I congratulate them on their selection to the 2012 Australian Olympic Team."

Tony Scott, Executive Officer for MTBA agreed. He said

"Both Dan and Rebecca have excelled this year on the International MTB stage. They are a credit to their families that have supported them for many years of hard work, of success and disappointments, but who are now at the pinnacle of achievements - representing their Nation at the 2012 Olympic Games."
