Police investigate theft of Trek

Release Date: Tuesday, August 07 2012

ACT Policing is investigating the theft of around 40 high-end Trek bicycles in Fyshwick at the weekend.

TREK support our two Olympic mountain bikers, and they also support many other Elite level and developing riders around Australia.

Between 8pm Friday (August 3) and 9am yesterday (Monday, August 9) offenders broke into a secure trailer parked on Townsville Street, Fyshwick.

The offenders removed the 2013 model Trek brand bicycles from secure racks and loaded them into an unidentified vehicle.

Police believe the process of unloading and reloading the bikes would have taken the offenders at least an hour.

The bicycles are high performance models and are not yet available for purchase in Australia. Their estimated value is approximately $300 000.

Anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity on Townsville Street at the weekend is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.

There is an Australian Federal Police items about it on the AFP website

MTBA strongly encourages anyone who has information about this, or is offered a bike at a price too good to be true to please contact the AFP Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
