Under 19 Development

MTBA U19 XCO PROGRAM

Mountain Bike Australia (MTBA) is pleased to announce that it will be establishing a program for Under 19 XCO with the goals to prepare athletes for World Championships, assess and develop physiological and skill capacity, as well as monitor progress in fitness and technical skills. Under 17 riders who have demonstrated potential with exception performance at national level events may also be invited to participate in the program.

Athletes will also be provided tools to predict performance at international level and provided informationĀ on recovery, nutrition and psychological & training interventions to improve performance.

Below is the outline for the program:

CAMP 1
GOLD COAST, 20-23 APRIL 2017

Goals

  • Assess rider current physical, technical, tactical and mental capacities
  • Identify gaps in current capacity to International Rider Profile
  • Work with athletes and coaches to form an Individual Athlete Performance Plan
  • Prepare select athletes for International competition and travel
  • Rider’s coaches and parents invited to attend at own expense

CAMP 2
INTERNATIONAL CAMP, SWITZERLAND, 6-20 JUNE 2017

  • Selected riders to travel and compete in high level international competition
  • Bench-marking of current performance capacity
  • Identify gaps in current capacity to International Rider Profile
  • Familiarisation with competition in large, world class fields

PARTICIPATION

All activities will be subject to a levy. This levy must be paid prior to attendance at each activity.
Athletes are responsible for the costs of travel to the designated location for each activity.
The maximum squad size is 12 men and 6 women, divided between A and B teams in accordance with the selection criteria
All riders are expected to attend a minimum of two domestic camps
Not all riders will be selected for overseas travel
This program is subject to change based on the requirements of MTBA and athletes
